GMC unveils the AT4 sub brand designed to take on the Raptor
GMC will sell a new line of off road packages, designed to take advantage of the growing performance pickup segment. They showcased the AT4 package on a GMC Sierra full-size pickup truck at the New York AutoShow. The new package includes a 2-inch factory-installed suspension lift, standard four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case, locking rear differential and skid plates, off-road-tuned shock absorbers, a few different wheel and tire options, and a standard 5.3-liter V-8 engine. No confirmation on what the package is expected to cost.
All the luck to GMC because they're going to need it trying to unseat the reigning king that has remain unchallenged for so long. I'd like to see a comparison test between the Ecoboost raptor and the off-road package GMC. Any word on when it'll be released?
Its rumored to be going on sale in the fall, and we should see some confirmed price points just prior to that. It looks like there will also be some styling tweaks inside and out as the AT4 will also feature dark exterior trimming with body-color bumpers and grille surrounds, high-gloss black window trim, mirror caps and red accents throughout.
At this point, I think the 6.2-liter V-8 powered Ram Rebel TRX has a better chance at competing against the Raptor with 707 horses and 650 pound-feet of torque. Very impressive numbers, though I'm not sure if it'll really go into production.
It would be nice if we could get solid confirmation about whether or not Dodge will actually be offering a TRX variant of the Ram. Because I definitely agree that it will be a much greater competitor for the Raptor. With that kind of power I have a feeling it will be a good bit more expensive though.
