GM not planning on a Ford Raptor Competitor

GM Executive Vice President of Global Product Development has put down rumors of a possible GM Ford F-150 Raptor competitor. Mark Reuss told Edmunds, we have a lot of priorities," but a Raptor competitor isn't one of them right now.

There might be one in the future though. A truck based on the Colorado ZR2 concept could happen in the future. That isn't on the docket any time soon though.

GM exec says a Ford F-150 Raptor competitor is a low priority

That's unfortunate.

I think GM could have pulled off a great competitor.

Eventually it would be nice to have GM and RAM have direct rivals for the Raptor.

Actually Reuss didn't put down the possibility of a Raptor rival at all, What Reuss said was that he's dealing with a lot of priorites/projects right now, a Raptor rival is on the lowest rung.

So what he's essentially saying is we're planning one, for the next generation when Silverado goes all aluminium and we can fight on an even platform...

That makes sense.

Once the Silverado has moved onto that stage, it will be a better foundation for turning into a monster.

Agreed, GM won't leave that much cash on the table... how much money does it take to uprade the suspension, print some new stickers and brochures? as a halo truck there's no telling how many will ogle and end up with a lower truck...

I don't think that he really is saying that they are going to build one. He definitely did not confirm that or anything. I agree that he is not ruling it out for the future, but saying there are other things that are higher priorities is not the same as saying that the hypothetical competitor will get built. It just seems to me that things at the bottom of the priority list probably don't always get built.

Fingers crossed that eventually we get to see a concept or something from the source (GM)

I could see a concept happening though. They might do that in order to get people excited and also see if there is enough interest to actually move it to production. Even that I would think we have to wait a while for.

they don't need to see if there's enough interest to move it into product
