5.0L Twin Turbo V8 Ecoboost Raptor?

There's a rumour out there that the beloved V8 will not be deserting the Raptor for good. Supposedly the 2018 Raptor will debut a new Coyote based 5.0L TT V8.

In 2012 we first saw Ford building 5.0L TT's for the Body-in-White, Cobra Jet drag racing program. Its expected that the productionized derivative of that motor will make its way not into just the 2018 Ford Raptor, but also the next gen Shelby GT500. Its likely the Raptor will still make use of Fords new 10 speed regardless of the cylinder count.

But the question remanins, can Raptor sales support two motors? A difficult question to answer as the 5.4 and 6.2 were never sold simultaneously. On the one hand the extra cost to certify a second engine for a low volume truck may be deterrent enough or Ford expects the addition of a second motor to push the Raptors take rate high enough to cover the extra expense...

Since the engine is already out there, ford may not have made a decision yet. They could be waiting to see what sales are like to decide one way or the other. How high would sales have to be to justify offering a second motor.

If they use that approach they'll never know if a second motor unlocks more sales, especially those who want V8s...

Although it's insignificant to everything else going on, those carbon fiber valve covers are awesome.
