Yup, we know what we're getting into by getting a truck, even Prius owners that haven't stepped foot in a pick up already knows what to expect. Plus once you get these on the highway your MPG numbers improve greatly, that's where they shine. Back on what's important... I'm just happy Ford is creating this themselves and not going to say... ZF which FCA uses. A lot of money is going into this, $1.4 billion apparently, hopefully that translates into longevity and reliability. |

| Jeff | Yea no... fuel economy isn't a concern. Smooth shifting, a transmission that can put em' with some abuse, and good torque figures at the right rpm (which this has) is what really matters to me. |

| Jurassic | Better fuel economy is a bonus but it's not the main perk, the smooth gear shifting is. If you're looking for a pickup in the first place then fuel economy isn't really a concern. |

| siezn | I like the sounds of efficiency, but reliability is one of my concerns, with how complex these components are getting it raises that concern and i've noticed less and less people want to hold onto these beyond the 4-5 year mark, which is about when warranty runs out. |

F-150 EcoBoost And 10-Speed Combo More Fuel Efficient  At least, that what Ford is claiming when it comes to their new 2017 F-150 that’s equipped with the Gen2 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission. The Guys at TFL Truck had a chance to test drive a 2017 F-150 near Dearborn, Michigan and Ford’s Michigan Proving Grounds. Before getting into the pickup, they were given a slideshow detailing the engine’s specs including its capability to produce 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque @ 3,500 rpm. That’s 10 more hp and 50 lb-ft more torque than its predecessor, all done without increasing the truck’s weight. Andre Smirnov, author of the review, walked away impressed with the 10-speed automatic transmission after taking it on a 60 mile test drive along the Michigan highways and side streets. Gear shifting was seamless and quick no matter the drive mode; regular, tow/haul, and sport. As for the new transmission’s fuel economy, mixed loop MPG tests was performed with a 2016 F-150 crew cab 4×4 King Ranch and a 2017 King Ranch with similar equipment. Neither model was driven rigorously so these mpg readings may reflect a gentle cruising loop. The 2016 model was driven for around 38 miles and the final trip computer reading showed a rating of 20.0 mpg. The 2017 model was driven for a shorter distance and the computer displayed a 21.2 mpg rating which puts it 1.2 mpg more efficient than the older model. Ford has not released the fuel economy estimates for their 2017 EcoBoost pickup and 10-speed transmission so these test numbers will have to do until the new F-150 hits dealerships. |
